Kitchen Table Talks

This Kitchen Table series, named in honor of Barbara Smith and the Kitchen Table Women of Color Press and informed by Lois Weaver's Long Table event, will feature conversations on creative-theoretical methods and praxes within and outside of academic institutions. We are building on speaker La Marr Jurelle Bruce's "A Seat at the Table" citation in order to critically commune "at the table" across space, time, and rank.

Perhaps more urgently, with the recent elimination of the joint MFA/PhD program in the Department of Literatures in English at Cornell, silos between MFA and PhD students have been detrimental to those of us who produce and operate from a creative-theoretical praxis. We seek to expand these Kitchen Table Talks for future engagement and to encourage continued collaboration and dialogue amongst creative theorists here at Cornell and beyond.
